The Republic of Moldova opens two consulates general in the United States of America: one in Chicago and the other one in Sacramento. The relevant decisions were approved by the Cabinet of Ministers on Thursday, IPN reports.
Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, said that the Republic of Moldova has a large diaspora in the U.S. The geographical expansion of consular services is designed to solve the problems faced by Moldovan citizens.
The official also referred to the economic potential of the diaspora, which contributes both to the U.S. economy and to the economy of the Republic of Moldova.
"The consulates will increase the importance of a connection point for the business communities of the Republic of Moldova and the U.S.," said Mihai Popșoi.
