Moldova negotiates two new projects in agriculture with EIB
Moldova is negotiating financing for two new projects in the agricultural sector with the European Investment Bank (EIB), Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vasile Bumakov said, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
One of the projects – to set up a wholesale market in Chisinau – is estimated at about €26 million. The final calculations have not been yet presented.
Negotiations are held simultaneously with other potential donors to create the wholesale infrastructure in the country’s settlements. “Financing is being negotiated with Czech Republic for building a wholesale market in Sculeni - a settlement that borders Romania. With Japan we are negotiating a loan for creating a network of markets in other villages of Moldova. These markets exist, but work in inappropriate conditions. We want to build trading halls that would be heated in winter and air-conditioned in summer and outfitted with refrigeration equipment,” said the minister.
The second loan negotiated with the EIB is for a project to develop milk production. “The EIB wants to support the implementation of projects of major importance for the country. This project to develop milk production will be a large-scale one that will be carried out at high costs. Initially, we asked the EIB to provide €30 million, but will see afterward,” said Vasile Bumakov.
The lending conditions are being discussed.
A program to restructure the winemaking and winegrowing sector has been launched this year. The EIB contributed €75 million to it.
