The Association “Promo-LEX” says the human rights do not have borders and the constitutional authorities of Moldova are obliged to defend the rights all over the country, including in the Transnistrian region that is controlled by the secessionist authorities. The issue was developed by Olga Manole, coordinator of a “Promo-LEX” project on the prevention of human rights violations and maltreatment, in a meeting of the EU’s Press Club, Info-Prim Neo reports. “”Promo-LEX, in partnership with the Equal Rights Trust of UK, is implementing a project designed to contribute to the prevention of all forms of ill-treatment based on discrimination, especially gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, disability and the spoken language,” Olga Manole said in the EU’s Press Club meeting themed “Implementation of the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights in Moldova.” Olga Manole stressed the project is intended for the vulnerable groups that can become victims of discrimination – the women subject to different forms of ill-treatment, the Romany people, the persons with mental and physical disabilities, the sexual minorities, the ethnic, linguistic and religious minorities. “The major goal of the project is to strengthen the legal protection and increase awareness of the use of discriminatory treatments,” said Olga Manole. The Strengthening Legal Protection from and Raising Awareness of Discriminatory Ill-Treatment in the Republic of Moldova, including Transnistria Project is a response to the call launched by the EU Delegation to Moldova for the Civil Society Organizations to submit proposals for supporting the democratic reforms and promoting the human rights, the freedom of expression and the freedom of the press. The project started last March and will end next March. Its budget is about €155,000. The EU’s contribution represents 92.4% of this sum, while the UNDP’s contribution – 7.5%.
