Moldova must deal with many issues in order to settle Transnistrian conflict, OSCE Secretary General
Moldova has a long list of issues to address in order to reach a final solution of the Transnistrian conflict. The statement was made by secretary general of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Lamberto Zannier, who had a meeting with Moldovan President Nicolae Timofti on July 17, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Lamberto Zannier said that the biggest problem was the settlement of the conflict itself, but until then Moldovan had to solve issues related to infrastructure, telecommunication, educations, customs service. “The list is pretty long and I can say now, when everybody is ready to discuss, that we have to sit at the negotiation table and reach an agreement regarding all these problems”, the OSCE secretary general declared after the meeting with Nicolae Timofti.
The Moldovan President described the meeting with Lamberto Zannier as necessary for the authorities. “By making small steps, we’ll near the settlement of this conflict. The Irish chairmanship of OSCE was a successful one and I’d like to highlight its efficiency and I hope that the Ukrainian chairmanship proves equally beneficial for the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict”, declared Nicolae Timofti.
Lamberto Zannier travels to Chisinau and Tiraspol between July 16 and 18 to discuss the OSCE activity and the process of settlement of the Transnistrian conflict. The official met with Prime Minister Vlad Filat, Speaker Marian Lupu, Deputy Prime Minister and Moldova’s chief negotiator Eugen Carpov, Minister of Foreign Affairs Iurie Leanca and Gagauzia Governor Mihail Formuzal. Tomorrow, July 18, he will travel to Tiraspol, where he will meet with the Transnistrian leader Yevgeny Shevchuk and chief negotiator Nina Shtansky.
