“Moldova Mea” suggests method for rooting out corruption

The public association “Moldova Mea” calls on the lawmakers to institute capital punishment for corruption. The association’s leader Fiodor Ghelici, in a news conference at IPN, said there is now no other method for rooting out corruption.

Fiodor Ghelici spoke about the arrest of former Prime Minister Vlad Filat and the accusations of corruption made against him, saying one arrest and a possible condemnation of a politician are not enough for eliminating corruption in the country. If capital punishment is instituted for bribery, corruption will be reduced or could even disappear.

The head of “Moldova Mea” noted that the people live at the poverty line and are now poorer than ever during the 24 years of independence. They do not want to wait for another about 25 years to start to live better. Those who are to blame for the mass exodus of people and the impoverishment of the elderly and of those with disabilities should be punished appropriately.

Fiodor Ghelici also said that the existence of death penalty will make the public servants to think better before taking bribe. A person caught taking bribe should not be shot dead immediately after being sentenced to death. These should be held in cells for tens of years so that they thought about the moment when they could be shot and served as an example for others.

Writer Mihail Lupashko, who is a member of the Association, told the same news conference that Moldova is on the edge of a precipice and a light wind can blow it down. The people lost patience and are indignant. They took to the streets and if the authorities do not take real measures to reform the country and eliminate corruption, this revolt could turn into a revolution.

Mihail Lupashko said the authorities only pretend to be doing the justice reform, but aim only to remain in power.

“Moldova Mea” member Valentina Serafimiciuc said she is against instituting capital punishment because she is faithful, but considers that radical measures should be taken to root out corruption because no law is now respected in the country.
