Moldova marks the International Telecommunications Day on May 17, established through a Governmental decision on April 30, Info-Prim Neo has learnt from the IT Ministry.
This year the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), an UN organization Moldova joined in 1994, decided that the Telecommunications Day has the slogan “Connecting the disabled: IT opportunities for everyone, let's help the whole world to communicate”.
Till 2005, the International Day of Telecommunications and Informational Society was called but the International Day of Telecommunications. In November 2005, the World Summit for the Informational Society asked the UN to declare May 17 as the International Day of Telecommunications and Informational Society in order to emphasize the info-communicational technologies in a world more and more dependent on information.
By marking this Day, the developed countries consider the informational society as a real possibility for rapid economic development, defeating “the digital difference” and insuring indiscriminate access to modern IT means and services.
