Moldova marks 30 years of independence. Officials lay flowers at Mourning Mother

Moldova marks 30 years of independence today, August 27, 2021. The country's leadership laid flowers this morning at the Mourning Mother monument at the Eternity Memorial Complex.

President Maia Sandu, along with Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița and Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, approached the wreaths laid by the Honor Guard soldiers and stood at attention, listening to the state anthem.

The prime minister and the head of state chose to wear white outfits to the event.

After laying flowers, the officials left without giving press statements.

According to the event's program, flower-laying will follow at the monument to Stephen the Great, followed by, at 10:00 o'clock, the official inauguration of the Independence Day celebrations in the Great National Assembly Square. Presidents Klaus Iohannis of Romania, Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine, and Andrzej Duda  of Poland are expected to attend the event.

Following the military ceremony and speeches by the country's leadership, a military parade will take place.

Spectator access to the stands is limited only to guests who are vaccinated, those who test negative for COVID-19 or those who provide proof that they have already experienced the disease.
