Moldova lost foreign investment due to poor roads

Foreign investors refused to invest money in certain areas of Moldova due to poor infrastructure. According to the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure, Anatol Usatîi, roads are a key requirement of foreign companies that want to invest in Moldova.

"Potential investors did not invest due to poor infrastructure. After traversing certain roads, many investment companies said that they would not invest until proper infrastructure is established. Transportation time is constantly monitored by investors, while logistics is a key component of a business", said Anatol Usatîi during a Moldova 1 television show.

Asked about how authorities priorities road works, the official said these decisions are based on a multi-annual plan and a strategy that includes a road priority list.

However, according to the official, priorities can be adjusted by politicians, who's prime concern may be opposite of actual need.

On the topic of poor road quality, Anatol Usatîi said that construction site managers are responsible for road quality and can be criminally investigated, if they neglect their duties.

"10% of the entire payment is withheld in the State Road Administration account for potential defect repairs that might occur during the first season. We release this amount of money after a year", concluded the official.
