Moldova lost 27 cases at ECHR in 2012
The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) passed 27 decisions concerning Moldova in 2012. Moldova was obliged to pay damages of €843,000. The public association “Jurists for Human Rights” compiled a list of persons responsible for the conviction of Moldova in the given cases, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the association, the largest damage was awarded in the case of Parnau and others versus Moldova – over €207,000. The decision was passed on March 31, 2012, Moldova being convicted for violating the principle of security of legal reports. The association couldn’t identify the judges to blame for this conviction. It only established that they are from the Supreme Court of Justice.
In the case of the International Bank for Investment and Development against Moldova, Moldova was again found guilty of violating the principle of security of legal reports and obliged to pay damages of €110,000. The association determined that judges Ion Muruianu, Vasile Cherdivara and Nina Cernat are to blame in this case.
The third large damage, of almost €115,000, was awarded in the case Ghimp and others versus Moldova. The ECHR held that Moldova violated the European Convention article concerning death following injuries suffered while in police custody and the inefficient investigation of the death. The association established that a number of persons are to blame in this case, starting with police officers and ending with the legal expert.
The last time, the ECHR convicted Moldova on December 18, 2012. The Court ruled that Moldova must pay damages of €13,500 to a man who was ill-treated by the police.
The public association “Jurists for Human Rights” said the list was compiled based on the information collected from the lawyers who represented the plaintiffs and on the ECHR decisions. The list was made with a view to informing the public and, possibly, of helping the authorities to file appeals.
