The national football team of Moldova was relegated to League D of the UEFA Nations League after it was beaten by Kazakhstan 4-5 in the penalty shootout in the second match of the League’s play-outs, IPN reports.
After suffering a 1-2 defeat in Chisinau, Moldova managed to score away and to take the game to overtime. Fullback Igor Armaș opened the score in the 13th minute with a superb kick. In the penalty shootout, Caimacov, Armaș, Mandrîcenco and Crăciun scored for Moldova, while Nicolaescu and Revenco failed to score.
“Surely, we are disappointed. We managed to reach the penalty shootout where luck wasn’t on our side,” said Moldova manager Sergiu Kleshchenko.
In League D of the 2022/23 UEFA Nations League, Moldova will play in a group with Liechtenstein, Andorra and Latvia. Moldova plays the next match away, against Liechtenstein, on June 3.
