The Moldova diaspora in Latvia will enjoy more benefits in the social security sector. An agreement providing this was signed by Moldova and Latvia. The agreement guarantees that the Moldovan citizens will get old-age pensions, successor’s pensions, pensions for disability caused by a common disease and allowance for disability caused by work-related injury or occupational disease and death benefit from the state in which they worked legally, IPN reports.
The socially insured persons will benefit from pension regardless of the place of domicile. Each of the states will apply the national legislation in the field and the pension will be transferred monthly to the beneficiary in the state in which these domicile at present. The agreement also stipulates the procedures for determining the total contributory period for obtaining pension.
Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, who had been in Brussels on December 11-12 and met with his Latvian counterpart Krišjānis Kariņš, there, said the agreement will provide substantial benefits to the Moldovan diaspora in Latvia. He and the Latvian official welcomed Air Baltic’s decision to operate direct flights to Chisinau from next May, which will mean more destination options for the Moldovans.
Moldova signed international social security agreements with Romania, Portugal, Germany, Turkey, Belarus, Greece, Italy, while the agreement signed with Spain is to be ratified by the other contracting party.
