Moldova joins international statement on Afghanistan

Moldova has joined a declaration endorsed by more than 70 countries which says that Afghans and international citizens who want to leave Afghanistan must be allowed to depart, while airports and border crossings must remain open, IPN reports.

The Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration said in a press release it is closely monitoring the development of the security situation in Afghanistan. If need be, the Ministry will engage in evacuating Moldovan citizens by ensuring coordinated communication through diplomatic channels with partner countries that have a diplomatic mission in Kabul.

Moldovan diplomats are already in contact with their Romanian and Ukrainian colleagues to intervene promptly, if necessary, to assist Moldovan nationals. So far, the Ministry hasn’t received any repatriation requests from Moldovan citizens.

Anyone having information about Moldovans being in difficult or emergency situations in the region are asked notify the Ministry without delay by email at dac@mfa.gov.md or by phone at +373 22 201 050.
