Moldova joins Global Convention on Higher Education

The Republic of Moldova will join the Global Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications concerning Higher Education which was adopted in Paris. A bill to this effect was given two readings by Parliament, IPN reports.

“Together with our country’s accession to this Convention, the students of the Republic of Moldova and teachers who opt for mobility programs, will benefit from a number of opportunities. Also, the higher educational institutions will be fully included in the international circuit of educational services and will be connected to international information and qualification recognition networks,” Galina Rusu, secretary of state of the Ministry of Education and Research, stated in Parliament.

The Global Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications concerning Higher Education was adopted in Paris on November 25, 2019. So far, this was ratified by 22 states.

The Global Convention will ensure the standardization of the five regional UNESCO conventions in Europe, Asia-Pacific, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, including the Lisbon Recognition Convention of 1997, which was ratified by the Republic of Moldova in 1999, and its supplementation with a series of new provisions and, implicitly, new opportunities for persons and higher educational institutions. Among these are the recognition of the crossborder qualifications, recognition of learning outcome, previous education and partial qualifications, promotion and strengthening of international cooperation in higher education, facilitation of global mobility, etc.
