Moldova is interested in Ukraine’s stability - Foreign Minister

Moldovan authorities are watching closely the internal political evolutions in Ukraine – a friend and neighbour country of Moldova, says a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. According to MFAEI, Moldova is interested in Ukraine’s stability and hopes that the present political situation in this country would improve by means of constitutional provisions and democratic practices. Ukraine’s President Victor Iuscenko announced on April 2 the dissolution of the Supreme Rada (the Ukrainian legislature) and set the date for early elections for May 27. Iuscenko explained his decision by “by the strict necessity to save the state’s sovereignty and territorial integrity”. On the other hand, part of legislators in the Supreme Rada announced that they will sue the decree of the Ukrainian President at the Constitutional Court. The Ukrainian media announced that the Region Party, Communist Party and Socialist Party of Ukraine are not willing to get ready for the election campaign, thus ignoring Iuscenko’s decree. The regular parliamentary elections in Ukraine took place in late March 2006.
