Moldova is heading for Vilnius Summit with homework done, MPs

The Republic of Moldova is coming closer to the Vilnius Summit with the homework done, with accomplishments and with no required laws missing, representatives of the Pro-European Coalition said in the program “Moldova Live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.

The head of the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group Valeriu Strelet said that Moldova approaches the summit with firm steps and there are no obstacles to initialing the Association Agreement and the Free Trade Agreement with the EU. The reconstruction, modernization and development of the country is possible only by European integration, but miracles will not happen after the Vilnius Summit. There will be a heavy workload. “We will have to work hard to combat corruption, to reform justice and to improve the efficiency of the public institutions,” he stated, adding there are big chances for the agreements to be signed next September and for the visa regime to be liberalized.

The president of honor of the Democratic Party Dumitru Diacov said that though there are many persons who are dissatisfied with the developments in Moldova and want better laws, a better atmosphere and better results in economy, there is political stability. “The Government drew the necessary conclusions. The reaching of compromises within the coalition is one of the most important promises made to the voters,” he said.

According to him, the period after the Vilnius Summit is also important as the authorities will have to fulfill the commitments made to the voters and the foreign partners. “We must do everything possible for Moldova to be a factor of stability in this part of Europe. It must be a quiet country that honors its obligations,” stated Dumitru Diacov.

The leader of the group of Liberal reformers Ion Hadarca said that despite the experienced crises, the pro-European course was kept. “The greatest accomplishment is the ensuring of the stability of the political course. New projects came to Moldova,” he said, adding that a clear plan of action will be worked out for the period after the summit.

The Eastern Partnership Summit will take place in Vilnius on November 28-29.
