Moldova is fully supplied with electricity by MGRES

Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spînu, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, said that as from 11 October, 3am, the Republic of Moldova has been fully supplied with electrical energy by MGRES (Kuchurgan Power Plant). This is possible because Moldovagaz allocated an additional amount of 0.9 million cubic meters of gas to MGRES for producing the electricity needed for 24 hours. The measures were taken after Russian missiles hit energy infrastructure facilities in Ukraine and caused a halt in the export of electrical energy to the EU and Moldova, IPN reports.

“On October 10, over 80 criminal Russian missiles hit the neighboring country Ukraine, claiming lives and causing dreadful destruction. A part of these missiles hit energy infrastructure facilities and caused a halt in the export of electricity to the European Union and the Republic of Moldova. Our country is directly affected by the terrorist Russians bombardment of Ukraine given that we purchase 30% of the consumed electrical energy from Ukraine,” stated Andrei Spînu.

According to the official, the authorities’ priority is to provide the country with electrical energy at the lowest price possible in this difficult situation. “We yesterday had discussions with Ukraine, Romania, the European Union so as to together identity as good solution for the Moldovans. I will continue to inform the citizens and the press about our actions,” said the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development.

After Sunday’s strike against the Kerch bridge in Crimea, the Russian armed forces launched missile attacks on a number of cities across Ukraine, including its capital Kyiv. The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said the attacks claimed lives and left injured.
