Moldova is being hit by a new wave of COVID-19. During the first week of this year, January 3-9, the number of new cases of COVID-19 rose by 78%, while of deaths from the novel coronavirus by 26%. At the same time, the number of patients who got cured declined by 36% on a week before, Nicolae Jelamschi, director of the National Public Health Agency, was quoted by IPN as saying in a news conference.

According to him, the rise in the new cases is due to the fact that many nationals returned home from abroad to spend the holidays in Moldova. 90% of the cases are the COVID-19 Delta variant, while 10% the Omicron variant. The COVID-19 incidence rate the last seven days was 99 cases per 100,000 people.

The Moldovans who want to get a vaccine can choose from among the available vaccines made by Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Sinovac and Sinopharm.
