According to the last evaluations, Moldova is eligible for the full program of USA - “Millennium Challenge Account”, within the frameworks of which it will benefit from financial assistance as grants for the implementation of reforms in different fields, Michel D. Kirby, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of USA to Moldova declared at a meeting with the prime-minister Vasile Tarlev. The diplomat mentioned that Moldova advances on the way of economic and social reforms, so that it fits the qualification conditions for the “Millennium Challenge Account” Program. Also, the ambassador emphasized that the standpoint of USA in the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict is unchanged and it believes in the sustainable political settlement of the conflict, by respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova. The diplomat said that the creation of the EU Border Assistance Mission is a significant achievement on the way towards Moldova’s reintegration PM Tarlev emphasized the progress registered in the last years in the development of relations between the two countries, both on bilateral level and within international organizations. In this context, the head of the Executive mentioned about the efficient collaboration and technical assistance offered to Moldova by the US Government, hoping that the area of this support will be expanded. Millennium Challenge Account was created by the US Congress in 2004 as a response to the call of the US president George Bush “to create a new pact for global development”, which would create a better connection between the higher contributions offered by developed nations and the greater responsibility of the developing nations.
