Thousands of Jewish pilgrims arrive at the Chisinau International Airport during September 11-12 to travel further to Uman in Ukraine to celebrate the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah. The Moldovan authorities took special measures to ensure the pilgrims’ safe travel without the border and airport activities and the movement on public roads being disrupted, IPN reports.

The Ministry of the Interior said that special flows for checking pilgrims’ documents were set up to streamline the activities at the Airport. To ensure the schedule of flights is not affected, the passengers of regular flights are asked to come to the Airport three hours before the departure time. To avoid crowdedness, access to the airport was limited and only persons with plane tickets and the technical personnel of the Airport can go in.

Police teams are streamlining traffic flows on the national roads that lead to the Moldovan-Ukrainian border crossing points Palanca, Tudora, and Otaci so as to avoid the formation of traffic jams. Currently, the situation on the roads is normal and no recommendations to bypass particular routes are necessary.

There are no major flows of people at the state border crossing points Palanca, Tudora, and Otaci.

The logistical organization of the movement of pilgrims on Moldova’s territory is ensured by Israel in cooperation with civil society organizations of Israel and volunteers. The Moldovan authorities offer assistance to ensure the proper and safe movement of the pilgrims.

Each new Jewish year, the Jews go on pilgrimage to the Ukrainian city Uman, which is home to the tomb of Rabbi Nachman of Bratslav, the legendary founder of the Bratslav Hasidic sect – one of the currents of Judaism.
