The electoral period and the elections are a rather easy stage and the formation of the Government follows now. For the Republic of Moldova, this is very important as the country is at a crossroads of very important geopolitical decisions, said the Vice-President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization (PABSEC) Petar Kanev, who heads Bulgaria’s delegation to the PABSEC.
In a news conference at IPN, where there were presented the conclusions of the election observation missions, Petar Kanev said now the Republic of Moldova is to take important decisions. “Many years ago, Bulgaria was in a similar situation. We overcame a very difficult period. You will need wise politicians and a wise executive power. That’s why we, as observers, would like to know that reforms will be done during the next few years and the first year of the new Government. Usually, the first year is the year when reforms can be done. If these are not done in the period, it is afterward difficult and late,” stated Petar Kanev.
The representatives of the PABSEC said the Republic of Moldova is probably the only state to which Europe delegated about 3,000 observers to oversee the elections. This large number shows the increased attention devoted by Europe to the processes that take place in the country. The PABSEC Mission concluded that the parliamentary elections in Moldova were conducted fairly and no major violations that can influence the election outcome were recorded.
“I think yesterday’s elections can be described as a step towards democracy. Our observations show that access to participation in elections was ensured for all the parties and all the players involved. At polling stations, we saw both young people and elderly people and this is gladdening as the people could express their wish,” stated the PABSEC Secretary General Asaf Hajiyev.
Ramaz Nikolaishvili, a member of Georgia’s delegation to the PABSEC, said the citizens‘ right to vote at these elections was ensured and the electors could vote whom they wanted. “It is curious for us too to see what follows. We would like those who were elected to make sure the country follows a path to development,” stated Ramaz Nikolaishvili.
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization has worked for 25 years and includes 12 countries, three of which are EU member states. The observers will later present a detailed report with all the election observation mission’s conclusions.
