If the technical translation procedures hadn’t existed, Moldova could have signed the Association Agreement with the EU at the Vilnius Eastern Partnership Summit as the European officials already said that Moldova met all the imposed conditions. But the real difficulties will be encountered after the signing of the accord, political analyst Anatol Taranu, who heads the Institute for Political Analysis and Consultancy “Politicon”, said in the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, quoted by IPN.
The analyst stated that in some of the areas Moldova will have a vacation period of 7-10 years for meeting the European standards as the country set the ambitious objective of becoming an EU member, not only an associate state. The signing of the Association Agreement depends on the political stability and the continuation of the initiated reforms. The actual implementation of reforms will start when the agreement is signed.
Politologist Alexandru Solcan said the initialing of the Association Agreement with the EU might have taken place earlier if the political class had gone through the preparation process without victims. The initialing of the Association Agreement is a success of the whole political class and of the opposition, but not of the opposition that lately turned into an anti-system one.
Politologist Veaceslav Berbeca underlined that after the initialing of the Association Agreement, Moldova will have an important agenda to follow. In the process of coming closer to the EU, Moldova will be subject to pressure by Russia, but Moldova is not as vulnerable before Russia as Ukraine. However, the foreign factors can influence the situation in Moldova.
He considers that Russia will use the tense situation on the left bank of the Nistru and the Moldovan migrants working in Russia to exert pressure on Moldova.
