Moldova is 90% hit by drought
Some 90% of Moldova's total area is affected by drought. “The hydrothermal coefficient ranges from 0 to 0.4, which indicates that we are experiencing an intense to very intense drought”, announced Prime Minister Vlad Filat at the Government's meeting on Wednesday, adding that on Thursday he will convene the Emergencies Commission to decide on the steps that need to be taken, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The Prime Minister stated that a national strategy is needed to offer an integrated approach on water management. “This will include everything from water sources, to transport, reservoirs, distribution to water treatment”.
Earlier multiple experts voiced concern about the negative impact of the ongoing heatwave on crops.
