For the first time in Moldova, the 13th National Wine Day will take place under the common country brand name “Wine of Moldova. Living Legend”. On October 4 and 5, the central square of Chisinau will host the holiday of wine, where representatives of the winemaking and winegrowing sector of Moldova, alongside guests from the country and abroad, will celebrate the national wine, IPN reports.
The event will include thematic performances and concerts. In the opening of the event, performances will be given by folk music legends, while the evening concert will involve the band “Zdob si Zdub”, Alex Calancea Band, Nelly Ciobanu, Natalia Barbu and others.
The National Wine Day is aimed at promoting the Moldovan people’s millenary culture of making and drinking wines of a high quality and the conscious and moderate drinking of wine by education. A traditional peasant courtyard will be set up in the Craftsmen’s Area, in the Great National Assembly Square. There the craftsmen will exhibit works with grape and vine motifs and will give masterclasses on making barrels, clay pots and dishes, wattle, etc.
In the Creation Area, Moldovan painters renowned in the country and abroad will paint four giant wine bottles during two days. They will present four distinct artistic views on the Moldovan winemaking traditions. In the Tasting Area, a number of personalities will showcase their culinary skills, while the visitors will be able to taste national dishes and wines.
In the Education Area, the visitors will see all the stages of making wine, will learn to taste and drink wines of a high quality at the Wine School, will admire an exhibition of grapes and cuttings, will act as the jury of a great contest of brass bands from different regions of the country and will take part in a huge Romanian round dance.
The holiday opens officially at 11am. The Top Prize “For special accomplishments in winegrowing and winemaking” and the Prize “Golden barrel” will be awarded between 12:20pm and 12:30pm. Different interactive activities and contests will be held until 7pm. A concert will follow next. At 9.40pm, there will be staged a lightshow, while “Zdob si Zdub” will give their recital starting at 10pm.
This year, the National Wine Day is organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, the National Office of Vine and Wine and the Association of Wine Producers and Exporters with the support of USAID CEED II Project.
