Metrologists from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Moldova are taking part in the 32nd meeting of the scientific and technical commission on metrology of the regional Asian Council for Standardization, Metrology and Certification Organziation (EASC), Info-Prim Neo reports. In the opening of the event, Deputy Minister of Economy Octavian Calmac said one of the results of this commission is that the metering means of one country are placed on the markets of other member states of EASC without being tested additionally. The commission’s secretary Nicolai Sonet said the program of the two-day session of the commission includes the implementation of the European Directive and the New Approach for Secure and Efficient Metering in the EASC, recognition of the metering and expert assessment procedures in metrology, and other issues. The adjustment of the system of standards and measurements to the European and international requirements does not imply installation of modern equipment only. It is important that they are recognized and used by companies in assessing the products. This also implies better ensuring the protection of the rights of the consumers. Nicolai Sonet stressed the necessity of improving the legislative framework and technical regulations concerning metering. As to the system of standards and measurements in Moldova, Octavian Calmac said modern metering equipment was purchased during the last few years within the World Bank’s Competitiveness Enhancement Project. There were reequipped two metrology laboratories, but the equipment and its maintenance is expensive as it must be checked regularly. “According to our preliminary calculations, we need investments of €50 million and about 10 years to adjust the national system of standards and measurements to the international requirements,” he stressed.
