Moldova hopes to resume negotiations on recognition of its property in Ukraine

The executive submitted the protocol with amendments to the agreement on the mutual recognition of the rights and regulation of the property relations signed by the Governments of Moldova and Ukraine on August 11, 1994 to Parliament for ratification, Info-Prim Neo reports. The protocol dates from February 1, 2010 and was signed in Kiev. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, its ratification will remove the obstacles to the resumption of the negotiations on the recognition by Ukraine of Moldova’s properties situated on Ukrainian territory, which were suspended in 2006. The properties include the granite gavel quarry in Pervomaisk and the gravel quarry in Cernauti. The Moldovan authorities hope the ratification of the protocol, which was agreed by the Presidents of the two states in 2008, will allow the joint commercial-economic cooperation commission to resume its work. The last meeting was held five years ago, in May 2006. Usually, the bilateral commissions meet every year. The Government also decided to open talks on the agreement on ensuring the functionality of the Nistru hydroenergy complex. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar, who coordinates the energy sector, said the signing of this agreement will enable to inoffensively exploit the complex, ensuring the ecological security of the Nistru River. Under the draft agreement, Moldova will allow Ukraine to use 14.4 hectares of land in exchange for rent. The agreement is valid for five years and will be automatically extended for another five years if none of the parties is against.
