Moldova hopes to convince Russia to annul customs duties

The provisional coming into force of the Deep and Compressive Free Trade Agreement with the EU on September 1 does not mean that Moldova renounces the market of Russia or other CIS states with which it has commercial relations, Deputy Minister of Economy Octavian Calmac said in a program on “Radio Moldova” station, quoted by IPN.

According to Octavian Calmac, the Russian partners’ decision to impose customs duties on 19 categories of goods imported from Moldova is unjustified from the viewpoint of the norms laid down in the Free Trade Agreement with the CIS, signed by Moldova.

“The Russian side didn’t present plausible information as to the reasons that made them impose customs duties. But we planned a series of meetings at expert level and at ministry administration level for the last decade of September. This subject will be also discussed within the Economic Council of the CIS that will bring together deputy prime ministers of the CIS states. We hope we will find sufficient arguments for the Russian partners to return to the decision concerning the imposition of customs duties,” stated Octavian CalmAc.

The customs duties started to be applied on September 1.
