Moldova hasn’t used chances offered by cooperation with U.S., Oazu Nantoi
Political analyst Oazu Nantoi considers that during the 20 years of Moldova-U.S. diplomatic relations, the Moldovans haven’t used at least the smallest part of the chances that appeared in this cooperation, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“I remember the times when the first embassies appeared. The U.S. Embassy was among the first. We were glad that we were recognized as a state and the United States was like a chance for Moldova. But Moldova used not even the smallest part of those chances. The problem resides in us,” Oazu Nantoi told the press in a conference centering on the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Moldova and the U.S.
“The U.S. provides support to the states that go towards democracy. When the Millennium Challenge Account program was ready to provide large sums of money for dealing with our problems, the existing corruption hindered the plans. It is our fault that we cannot achieve more significant results,” said Oazu Nantoi.
He also said that the Moldovans should not think that somebody must solve their problems. “We must get working. If we want to count on somebody’s support, we must change our behavior. The diplomats see that we say one thing in Washington, but do another thing at home,” said Oazu Nantoi.
Moldova and the United States have marked 20 years of diplomatic relations. On this occasion, the officials said that many important things have been done over the two decades.
