Moldova has made important progress on its democratic path and proved to be a trustworthy partner of the EU. The statement was made by head of European People’s Party group in the European Parliament Joseph Daul, who met with the leader of the Liberal-Democratic Party of Moldova, Prime Minister Vlad Filat, Info-Prim Neo reports. “It’s good you made progress towards democracy in Moldova. You must know you are proving to be a trustworthy partner of the European Union. You progressed a lot with the Association Agreement and with talks on the Free Trade Agreement. You must continue on this path of getting closer to the European Union because it leads to democracy”, said the official. Joseph Daul stressed that Moldova must focus on fighting corruption in order to achieve economic development and social progress. “All political parties must work in this regard. It’s a great chance to belong to the great PPE family, which is large and united. Thanks to this family, many countries progressed”, said the European official. Vlad Filat said that he and Joseph Daul discussed about Moldova’s agenda of reforms. “We agreed that there is progress in all the domains. I reiterated that Moldova’s top priority is European integration and I reconfirmed our firm stance in implementing reforms. We also spoke about the justice reform and about fighting corruption”, stressed the PLDM leader. Vlad Filat added that PLDM’s membership in the great and powerful European family of people’s parties helped Moldova in promoting its European integration goal. Joseph Daul will participate in the Forum of PLDM local elected officials on Tuesday, September 18. The forum will bring together over 750 mayors, local and district councilors, who will debate the PLDM agenda in the field of decentralization and local autonomy, the commitments for Moldova’s development and attraction of investments.
