Moldova has a real prospect of irreversibly connecting to the European project, said romanian Minister

The Republic of Moldova is facing a "real prospect" of irreversibly connecting to the European Union, viewing European integration as the only strategic option that can guarantee its citizens "security, peace, and prosperity". This message was conveyed by Romania's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Luminița Odobescu, during the working session of the EU Foreign Affairs Council, as reported by IPN with reference to Agerpress.ro.

The forum also included Moldova’s Foreign Minister, Mihai Popșoi, who participated at the initiative of Romanian and Lithuanian officials, highlighting the importance of supporting Moldova's European path.

The meeting provided an opportunity for in-depth discussions on political developments in Moldova, particularly in the aftermath of the presidential elections and the referendum held on October 20. The officials addressed hybrid attacks by the Russian Federation aimed at undermining Moldova’s electoral process and diverting its European trajectory.

The Romanian minister congratulated Moldova’s authorities for the "flawless" organization of the elections and constitutional referendum, emphasizing the remarkable mobilization of Moldovan citizens in support of European integration despite significant efforts by Russia to influence the outcome. "At this moment, the Republic of Moldova has a real prospect of irreversibly connecting to the European project as the only strategic option that can provide its citizens with security, peace, and prosperity", underlined Romania's Foreign Minister.

Luminița Odobescu also reaffirmed Romania’s commitment to actively supporting Moldova on all cooperation fronts, including by intensifying efforts within the European Union and its member states to strengthen Moldova's resilience and counter disinformation and hybrid attacks. She emphasized the need to accelerate European reforms and ensure the institutional stability of the Republic of Moldova.

Vice Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi detailed the security challenges Moldova faces, focusing on the tools used by Russia to influence election outcomes and destabilize the country. He stressed the necessity of additional international support to counter these threats and foster long-term economic development for the benefit of Moldova’s citizens.

In this context, a strong commitment from the European Union and its member states was expressed to continue supporting Moldova’s European path, not only as a strategic goal for the country but also as a priority for regional security and stability.
