Moldova’s future is only in NATO and the EU, considers the administration of the Liberal Party (PL). In a news conference, the Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu said the party insists on several important ideas in the current election campaign, namely: abrogation of the constitutional article concerning Moldova’s neutrality, partnership with the U.S., entry into the EU, modernization of the armed forces and ensuring of their compatibility with NATO, IPN reports.
According to Mihai Ghimpu, Moldova must join NATO because it is a small state that ensures its security. Moldova’s security can be guaranteed by NATO by the principle “an attack against a NATO member state is an attack against everyone”.
The PL insists that Article 11 of the Constitution – Neutrality – should be eliminated. Moldova is a state without real independence and without the possibility of guaranteeing its security. It is only a territory depending on Russia, while Russia is the country that violates the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova because it does not withdraw its troops from its territory.
The Liberals consider that the integration into NATO and the partnership with the U.S ensure the entry into the EU. Moldova does not have a recognized market economy. In order to gain this status, Moldova must start a closer cooperation with the U.S.
The Liberal Party proposes several basic pillars concerning the modernization of the armed forces and ensuring of their compatibility with NATO. The first is increasing the costs for defense to 0.3%- 0.5% of the GDP. The announced priorities also include the transformation of the body of officers into an elite corps of society, creation of a company that will produce military technique needed by the National Army and exports, setting up of the Military Information Service, and enhancement of the interoperability degree with the NATO armies.
The parliamentary elections will take place on November 30.
