Moldova placed last in Group 3 of the 2012 World Cup's second qualifying round, having obtained just one point in the group in a Sunday match against Israel, 3-3. Israel took the lead with two goals scored by Matan Shriki in the early part of half two. Moldova's captain Oleg Hiloti reduced the difference, however five minutes later Adam Cohen scored a third goal for Israel. Vladimir Vusatii's side continued to attack and eventually managed to tie the game two minutes before the final whistle thanks to goals by Hiloti and Sergiu Tacot. Group 3 winners Serbia will be promoted alongside runners-up Slovenia to the next stage of the competition.
