Moldova firmly pleads for easing of tensions in Ukraine, Deputy Premier

“We share the partner states’ profound concern about the significant deterioration of the security situation in Ukraine and on its borders, which endanger the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the neighboring state,” said Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu. According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, the Republic of Moldova firmly pleads for the easing of current tensions by a coordinated effort and by identifying diplomatic solutions, IPN reports.

Nicu Popescu said that any threat or use of force that affects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states runs counter to the fundamental principles of international law, the European security order enshrined in the Helsinki Final Act, the Paris Charter and the subsequent statements of the OSCE.

“We also notice organized actions aimed at inciting violence accompanied by a significant expansion of disinformation and fake news that are designed to also generate a state of confusion,” stated the official. According to him, the Ukrainian authorities’ determination to identify a peaceful way out of the current crisis is welcome. “This way, we reiterate the plenary support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.”
