Moldova firmly condemns recognition of “independence” of Ukrainian separatist entities

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova condemns the recognition by the Russian Federation of the “independence” of the separatist entities in eastern Ukraine. It noted that this decision was preceded by a campaign of political and military pressure against Ukraine and by destabilization actions in the conflict zone. The official position was formulated by the Ministry in a Statement that is quoted by IPN.

“The recognition brings into question any prospect of politically solving the conflict in eastern Ukraine and will have profound and long-lasting negative consequences. We regret that the Russian Federation chose the path of violation of the principles and norms of international law. We hope that this evolution will not cause a new wave of military hostilities on the contact line. The Ministry reiterates its steady support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders,” runs the Statement.
