Moldova has a waste management strategy, but, due to bureaucracy, it is experiencing delays in its implementation, MP Ina Coseru said at a public debate hosted by IPN News Agency.
According to Ina Coșeru, Moldova, as a country, is ready to start building waste management infrastructure in two regions. This is the region that includes the districts of Ungheni, Călărași, Nisporeni and another region that includes Briceni, Ocnița, Edineț and Dondușeni. The feasibility studies were carried out, but, due to bureaucracy, a final decision has not been reached.
The parliamentarian stressed that the principle of extended producer responsibility started to work. The producer either collects the waste individually or signs a contract with a collective association which, for its part, signs a contract with local waste management associations.
During the debate, the MP reminded that the economic agents are obliged to give up plastic bags and replace them with biodegradable ones. She noted that in European countries, the people go shopping with eco bags.
The public debate entitled "Sorting and recycling waste. How to ensure a sustainable future" was staged as part of the project "IPN News Agency for Social Cohesion and a Pro-European Moldova", funded by IMS.
