Moldova does not recognize “referendum” in Georgia’s South Ossetia/Tskhinvali region

The Republic of Moldova does not recognize the so-called “referendum” that will be held in Georgia’s South Ossetia/Tskhinvali region on April 10. It reaffirms the firm support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognized borders, IPN reports.

“We fully share the Georgian constitutional authorities’ concern about the intention to organize a so-called “referendum” in this region of Georgia and condemn this act of violation of the fundamental norms and principles of international law defined in the UN Charter and the Helsinki Final Act,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration stated in a press release.

The ministry reiterated the Republic of Moldova’s position that any attempt to occupy or annex the territory of an independent state is a serious encroachment on international peace, security and stability.
