Moldova does not demand special treatment in visa liberalization talks, Vlad Filat
The Republic of Moldova does not seek special treatment for its people in the dialogue on the liberalization of the visa regime with the European Union, Premier Vlad Filat said in the meeting with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton in Brussels on June 9, Info-Prim Neo reports.
A communique from the Government's press service says that Vlad Filat offered Catherine Ashton a non-paper that describes the progress made by Moldova in border management.
The Premier said that the Government's strategy for solving the Transnistrian dispute is aimed at building an attractive Moldova and the EU's support in this respect is of major importance.
“From this perspective, the liberalization of the visa regime for the Moldovan citizens and the planning of the talks on the creation of a deep and comprehensive free trade area are among the important things that can be done,” Vlad Filat said.
Catherine Ashton said she is in favor of the EU engaging more actively in the resumption of the talks in the 5+2 format as soon as possible, stressing that the European Union backs the Moldovan authorities' initiative to build an attractive Moldova for settling the conflict.
She welcomed the dialogue on the liberalization of the visa regime with the EU that will open in Luxemburg on June 15.
