The Republic of Moldova deserves obtaining a visa-free regime with the European Union. Romania believes that it will manage to convince of this the EU member states that are hesitant about the fact that this thing should happen as soon as possible, Romanian Ambassador in Chisinau Marius Lazurca said in the program “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.
The ambassador said the recommendation of the European Commission concerning the liberalization of the visa regime shows that from technical and legislative viewpoints, Moldova covered all the stages required for obtaining this regime.
“The member states take note of this recommendation, study the last report and draw the own conclusions. They take their own political decision and inform the Justice and Home Affairs Council about it. The decision is taken by a qualified majority and must not be unanimous. What Moldova should do the next months is to convince most of the member states that it is indeed ready from technical, administrative, institutional and legal points of view to obtain this liberalized regime with the EU,” said the Romanian diplomat.
Ambassadorial Pirkka Topiola, Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova, said that Moldova did enormous work to obtain the visa-free regime and expressed his optimism that a positive decision will be taken. “Now things stand very well,” he stated.
“The better the reforms in Moldova, the better the Moldovans will live. The more modernized the country and the more integrated into the international community it is, the more shared values will exist in practice and the closer will be the relations.”
On the eve of the Vilnius EaP Summit, on November 27, the European Commission proposed to the community co-legislators to accept visa-free trips in the Schengen area for Moldovan citizens holding biometric passports.
