Moldova counts on support of EU in sustainable political settlement of Transnistrian dispute – PM
Moldova counts on the support of the European Union in the sustainable settlement of the Transnistrian dispute, PM Vasile Tarlev declared at a meeting with the special representative of the European Union for Moldova, Adrian Jacobovitz de Szeged.
According to a press release of the Government, Vasile Tarlev said that the Government from Chisinau is open to a constructive collaboration, especially on implementing European standards and territorial reintegration of the Republic of Moldova.
PM expressed gratitude to the EU, mediators and observers involved in the negotiation process, OSCE, USA and Ukraine for their firm position regarding the non-recognition of the Transnistrian pseudo-referendum organized on September 17, 2006. As well, Tarlev mentioned that Moldova maintains its standpoint pursuant to the settlement of the Transnistrian dispute on the basis of continuous implementation of democratization and demilitarization processes in the region. As well, Tarlev pleaded in favor of resuming the “5+2” format negotiations.
Adrian Jacobovitz de Szeged expressed his openness to contribute to peacefully settling the Transnistrian conflict. The official said that he will undertake all possible measures in order to promote good relations between Moldova and the EU according to the Action Plan signed within the frameworks of the European neighborhood policy.
