Moldova could have representatives in Romania’s Parliament

The over 100,000 Moldovans that hold Romanian nationality could choose their representative in the Parliament of Romania. The Romanian political parties started to look in Moldova for candidates for the second uninominal college intended for the Romanians from outside the communitarian area, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the Romanian press. For the first time in the history of the Romanian democracy, the Diaspora will have representatives in the Parliament. There will be elected four MPs and two senators for the 6 million Romanians that live outside the borders. The Government of Romania has allotted four colleges for the Chamber of Deputies and two colleges for the Senate. As a result of the latest modifications, a college was earmarked for the EU countries, one for the extra-communitarian, European and Asian areas (Moldova, Russia, Ukraine, and Serbia), one for the United States, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia and one for Africa. The political parties consider that Moldova will be a high stake. According to unofficial sources, PD-L could offer the Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca to run in elections, given the very good relations between Traian Basescu and the Chisinau Mayor. Chirtoaca has Romanian nationality and graduated from a Romanian university. PSD is also searching for a Moldovan candidate, a representative of the non-Communist left wing or a civil personality that transcends the political life. PNL could choose a candidate that is close to Moldova’s Liberals.
