The national men’s chess team of Moldova scored the sixth victory at the World Chess Olympiad in Batumi. Moldova beat Slovenia 3.5 – 0.5, IPN reports.
Grand masters Viorel Iordăchescu and Dmitrii Svetushkin and master Nikita Morozov won by a victory, while grand master Viorel Bologan tied. After ten rounds, the men’s team ranks 17th out of 185 squads, having the same score as the 13th ranked team. In the last round on October 5, Moldova plays Uzbekistan.
The women’s team of Moldova scored six victories so far. In the tenth round, Moldova defeated the Philippines 2.5 – 1.5. Masters Diana Baciu and Paula-Alexandra Gîtu won, while grand master Svetlana Petrenko tied. Moldova is now 31rd in the women’s rankings.
