Moldova continues consultations with France and Canada on social protection agreements

In 2021-2022, the Republic of Moldova signed social protection agreements with Italy, Greece and Spain. Negotiations with Latvia have been concluded and those with Switzerland are at an advanced stage. The Moldovan authorities are also continuing consultations with France and Canada. This was stated by President Maia Sandu at the Diaspora Congress, taking place in Chisinau on Friday.

“You know better than I how important it is to have these social protection agreements with the countries where you have worked and where you need to receive a pension from when the time is right. We have made efforts in the past and we continue to make these efforts today”, said Sandu.

For the Moldovan authorities, she added, it is very important that the contributory periods of Moldovans working abroad are taken into account, so that their pension reflects the entire period in which they worked legally and contributed, regardless of whether they did it in the Republic of Moldova or another country.

“In addition to the previously signed social protection agreements, for example with Italy in June 2021, Greece in September 2021 and Spain in July 2022, negotiations with Latvia have been concluded and those with Switzerland are at an advanced stage. We are also continuing the consultation process with France and Canada. In my recent visit to Canada, I addressed this topic as a matter of priority”, Maia Sandu emphasized.

The Diaspora Congress is organized as part of the Diaspora Days, held in Chisinau on August 18-19.
