The Republic of Moldova moved one place forward in the Global Competiveness Report 2018, taking the 88th position out of 140 states with a score of 55.5 out of 85.6 possible, IPN reports.
According to the Institute of Economic Research and European Studies of the Academy of Economy Studies of Moldova, which is the official partner in Moldova of the World Economic Forum, the Republic of Moldova has a better score in terms of technological readiness, labor market flexibility, education and training, infrastructure, etc. It got the lowest score for innovational capacity and financial market sophistication level.
The rankings are topped by the U.S., Singapore, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, and the Netherlands. Among the Northern European states, Finland and Norway staged spectacular competitiveness improvements compared with the previous years, being placed 11th and 16th respectively. Romania went up 16 spots compared with the previous report, ranking 52nd.
Among the CIS member states, the countries that are less competitive than Moldova are Kyrgyzstan (97th) and Tajikistan (102nd). Compared with the previous year, the competitiveness indexes of Russia and Georgia are worse – 43rd positon, as opposed to 38th and, respectively, 66th positon, as against 67th.
The position of a state in the Global Competiveness Report is calculated according to 110 indicators grouped into 12 policy domains (pillars).
