Moldova climbs nine spots in Networked Readiness Index rankings

Moldova took the 68th position out of 143 states in the international Networked Readiness Index (NRI) rankings, climbing nine spots. The data are contained in the Global Information Technology Report 2015 that was launched by the World Economic Forum in cooperation with the European Business Administration Institute, IPN reports.

The Global Information Technology Report 2015 features the latest iteration of the Networked Readiness Index, which assesses the factors, policies and institutions that enable a country to fully leverage information and communication technologies for increased competitiveness and well-being. This index for Moldova is higher than the world average.

Moldova’s score shows that the digital economy continues to develop and to cover all the sectors of the economy and social life. The country witnessed NRI improvements in many of the ten pillars that form the integrated country index. By the competitiveness of the telephone and Internet sector, Moldova ranks first in the world, alongside the most developed states. Moldova continues to be one of the countries with the highest Internet access speed and is among the top ten countries by the rates on landline services.

The neighboring countries Romania and Ukraine rank 63rd and, respectively, 71st. At regional level, Moldova outstripped such East European countries as Bulgaria, Serbia, and Albania.

The rankings of the top 10 countries with the highest Networked Readiness Index are topped by the Scandinavian countries and Singapore, which built innovative and ICT receptive economies.
