The Republic of Moldova has celebrated the 26th anniversary of the declaration of independence. Festivities on this occasion were staged in all the districts of the country. In Chisinau, the event was also marked by a show of national costumes, IPN reports.
The day started with the laying of flowers at the monument to ruler Stephan the Great and Holy and the Grieving Mother Monument by President Igor Dodon, Head of Parliament Andrian Candu, Prime Minister Pavel Filip, ministers and other officials. In the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau, the celebrations were opened by a performance by the Brass Band of the Carabineer Troops Department of the Ministry of the Interior. Afterward, the children’s singing and dancing ensembles “Angels dance” and “Lollipops” and Valentin Uzun and Amelia sang and danced to the rhythm of Eugen Doga’s song Maria Mirabela.
In his congratulatory message, President Igor Dodon said during the 26 years Moldova experienced many challenges, but managed yet to ensure the continuity of the Moldovan statehood by building the republic and keeping the neutrality. “Regrettably, too many mistakes were made, including by the governments that ruled during this quarter of century. The large riches of the people were wasted and robbed. There were taken incorrect decisions that led to tragic events. Consequently, we have a fragmented and ideologically and identitarily divided state,” said President Dodon, noting that the mission of the people is to temper the passions so as to reduce this division.
Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu said he is overwhelmed by contradictory feelings, both of joy and of sadness, when he thinks about those who sacrificed their life and health for the citizens to celebrate on this day. “I have feelings of joy and good thoughts as not the size of the county, but the spirit and the people count and we have decent and devoted people who daily help build the state and strengthen what the Republic of Moldova means,” he stated.
For his part, Prime Minister Pavel Filip, in his speech in the official opening of the festivities, spoke about Moldova’s European course, accomplishments and failures. Moldova had Parliaments and governments of all colors during 26 years. The country witnessed both tragic and exciting events, inspired decisions and profound crises that affected the life of the people. “I hope a lot that during these 25 years the political class and the rules learned many lessons and I’m confident that from now on the Republic of Moldova will follow the right path, will move towards development and will ensure the welfare of its people,” said the Premier.
Performances were later given by the folk dances ensemble “Martsishor” and the Orchestra of the Advahov Borthers. The festivities continued with a show of national costumes that represented Ungheni, Soroca, Anenii Noi, Cantemir, Rezina and other districts. This was followed by a concert that featured Igor Rusu, Mihai Ciobanu, Zinaida Julea, Osoianu Sisters, Igor Cuciuc, Brio Sonores, Nicolae Glib, Cornelia Stefanet, Natalia Munteanu, orchestra “Fluieras”, folk dances group “Fluieras” and national academic folk dances ensemble “Joc”.
The American brand Freedom’S Boombox gave a recital later. This was followed by a pop music concert that involved Costi Burlacu, Corina Tepes, Natalia Gordienko, Iurie Sadovnic, Vitalie Dani, Cristina Scarlat, Acord, Lerica, Valy Boghean and Angry Band.
The recitals of the special invitees from Romania “Holograf” and Smiley and of Moldovan DJ Andrew Rayel concluded the celebrations.
The Republic of Moldova obtained its independence on August 27, 1991, when Parliament adopted the Declaration of Independence as the foundation document of the state. This was adopted and signed by 278 MPs of the 280 who attended the sitting.
