Moldova can see a rise in the number of infections with COVID-19 owing to new variants of the virus, like the Indian one. Even if 20-50% of the population is vaccinated against COVID-19, this won’t be enough. To raise the rate of vaccinations to 70% of the population until the end of November, 13,000-15,000 persons should be vaccinated daily, Alexei Ceban, epidemiologist of the National Public Health Agency, stated in the online event “Pill after COVID-19: Vaccination and impact on tourism”, IPN reports.

The epidemiologist recommends the persons who contracted the novel coronavirus to also get vaccinated in two weeks of the recovery. Only if the person suffered from a very serious form and needed transfusion of plasma, the vaccination against COVID-19 can take place in three months. This is a measure to prevent reinfection with other variants, stated Alexei Ceban.

He noted the persons who got a vaccine should continue wearing masks as they can pass on the SARS-CoV-2 virus to other persons who weren’t immunized.

If new variants of the virus appear, the persons who got vaccinated will have to get a new vaccine. For now, revaccination is not necessary. The COVID-19 vaccines do not alter the DNA and do not cause infertility.

Victoria Bucătaru, executive director of the National Inbound Tourism Association, said that vaccination centers will be opened at a number of tourist pensions in the country.

According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, 12% of Moldova’s population has been vaccinated against COVID-19 so far.
