Moldova can come closer to EU without worsening relations with CIS, Doctor of Philosophy

Moldova can come closer to the European Union without worsening the relations with the Commonwealth of Independent States, while the benefits that it may enjoy as a member of the Eurasian Customs Union can become less advantageous over the next two-three years, considers Doctor of Philosophy Victor Juc, who teaches at the European Integration and Political Sciences Institute of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports. He said that the joining of the European Union should remain Moldova’s strategic vector as it would enjoy greater benefits as an EU member than if it becomes a member of the Eurasian Union. “Moldova needs a functional long-term market economy and this objective can be achieved only by coming closer to the EU. We reiterate the necessity of creating a Ministry of European Integration that would coordinate all the policies on European integration,” Victor Juc said in the roundtable meeting “Moldova between the European Union and the Eurasian Union” that was held on the occasion of Europe Day in Moldova. According to Victor Juc, if Moldova wants to become a really democratic state, it must make effort to come closer to the European Union.
