Moldova benefited from 200 projects with foreign assistance in 2005

In Moldova there were implemented 196 projects with foreign assistance from 11 countries last year. According to the report on the National technical Assistance Program in 2005-2006, within this period there were implemented 31 projects in social sector, 23 – in institutional development area, 13 – in agriculture area and rural development, 19 had as goal development of the private sector, 8 in the field of judicial reform and 10 for health protection. These were implemented with the support of USE, Great Britain, Sweden, Switzerland, Netherlands, Japan, Germany, Turkey, Italy, Denmark and Austria. Multilateral projects were implemented with the support of the European Union and UN specialised agencies. US government is the main donor of technical assistance for Moldova. The amount of the American assistance through USAID agency is about 40% of the total technical assistance got by Moldova in 2005. With USAID support, within this period, 23 projects with a budget of 144,53 million dollars were implemented. The main objectives of the Assistance Strategy of USAID in 2001-2006 are to support the reform of the fiscal and financial sectors, small and medium-sized enterprises development, especially in agricultural sector, strengthening of the framework of the democratic institutions and development of social security networks. As well with USA help to Moldova there were implemented 15 projects with a budget of 18,472 million dollars, which were concentrated on penal legislation reform, fighting corruption, cross-border control, fighting human traffic, education and employment. With DFID support, in 2005, there were implemented 14 projects of technical assistance with a budget of 13,482 million dollars. The strategic document of assistance of DFID for the country is the Regional Assistance Plan for 2004-2007. Swedish government, which assistance is implemented via the Swedish Agency for International development (SIDA) allocated, in 2005, to Moldova assistance of 7,715 million dollars in the area of democratic governance, sustainable development and economic growth, promoting public health and preventing social exclusion. Last year there were negotiated technical cooperation actions with Poland, Hungary, Liechtenstein, Bulgaria and Baltic Countries.
