Moldova becomes second largest wine exporter to Russia

Moldova is now the second largest exporter of wines to Russia and has chances to regain the first position after two more terminals are opened in Saint Petersbourg and Bryansk, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vasile Bumacov told Info-Prim Neo, making reference to the estimations made by analysts. A Moldovan delegation headed by Vasile Bumacov took part in the meeting of the Association of Alcohol Market Participants “Aura” in Moscow alongside over 50 Moldovan wine producers. The aim of the visit was to boost the exports of Moldovan wines to Russia, Info-Prim Neo reports. ”The meeting in Moscow was held in a sincere atmosphere and we were able to identify solutions to the problems faced by the Moldovan exporters and Russian importers,” Vasile Bumacov said. He said the Moldovan authorities pledged to monitor the quality of the alcoholic products made in Moldova so as to avoid situations that can affect the bilateral relations. The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry asked Russia's food safety body Rospotrebnadzor to recognize the quality certificates issued in Chisinau. “We now have a modern laboratory and the certificates we issue to the exporters are more credible,” the deputy minister said. “Russia suggested solving this problem in stages, by certifying the Moldovan wines in a laboratory that is situated close to Chisinau.”
