Moldova becomes member of two UN elective bodies

The Republic of Moldova was chosen, for a three-year term, as a member of the Committee for Program and Coordination (2018-2020) and of the Commission for Social Development (2017-2019). The decision was taken in the session of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in New York on April 19, IPN has learned from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.

All the ECOSOC member states that took part in the ballot voted for Moldova to be elected as a member of the two elective bodies of the UN.

The Committee for Program and Coordination is the main subsidiary organ of the Economic and Social Council and the General Assembly for planning, programming and coordination.

The Commission for Social Development is the key United Nations body in charge of the follow up and implementation of the Copenhagen Declaration and Program of Action, adopted at the World Summit for Social Development in 1995.
