Moldova became a member of Global Environment Facility’s Administration Council

Moldova was elected as a member in the Administration Council of the Global Environment Facility by Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Georgia, Macedonia, Moldova, Poland, Romania and Ukraine group of countries. The Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, Constantin Mihailescu recently participated in the 3rd Assembly of GEF which took place in Cape Town, South Africa. 176 GEF member countries participated in the Assembly. The participation of Moldova in the works of GEF Assembly and the fact that Moldova was elected as a member of the Administration Council will offer significant advantages to Moldova, the most important of which are attracting foreign investments and promoting abroad the image of Moldova, press release of the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources reports. The discussions based on issues as the mechanism for financing international ecologic agreements, changing climate, setting national priorities and giving money for strengthening results at national scale. Mihailescu presented reports on the biological diversity in Moldova, climate’s changing, management and destruction or persistent organic pollutants. GEF is a global fund of environment, which helps developing countries fund projects and programs that protect the global environment through the World Bank, UNEP and UNDP in 5 areas: biodiversity, climate change, persistent organic pollutants, international waters and land degradation. The Administration Council of GEF is composed of 32 groups of countries.
